This region stretches along 100 miles of scenic coastline. Much of this is still made up of untouched beaches and quiet towns away from the tourism crowds. Akumal, just south of Playa del Carmen is one of Mexico's hidden treasures, with its beautiful palm fringed bay and soft white sand beaches.
Two of the most outstanding beaches on the Riviera are Playa del Secreto and Playa Paraiso, both between Playa and Cancun. Stake out a deserted stretch of sand for tranquil beautiful days of sun and fun. You may even spot the sea turtles known to frequent these peaceful shores.

Some of the most popular reefs for exploring along the Riviera Maya are the Punta Venados, La Pistola, Costa Reef, Chen Zubul, Molche, Pared Verde, El Arco and Cabezotes. Good diving is also available at nearby Xcaret.
